Lock up your sons - there´s a new type of manhunter about and she´s not stopping to ask questions. We´re talking about ´cougars´ – originally a Canadian term for older women who deliberately go out to the clubs, bars and pretty much any other fertile ´hunting ground´ looking for hot young guys.

 

Increasingly the term cougar is becoming well know thanks to reality TV shows like the Age of Love, in which a group of attractive 20-something women were pitted against a team of sexy older ladies in a competition for the affection of an eligible young bachelor.

 

Celebrities like Demi Moore, Madonna and even Elizabeth Taylor have all been branded ´cougars´ due to their well documented interest in guys old enough to be their sons.

 

Since its launch in 2007, cougar dating site www.cougared.com has attracted around 17,000 members. The success of cougared.com demonstrates that at last women are ready to turn the tables and take on the more mature role in the age gap relationship.

 

But what is a cougar anyway – and how do you qualify for the title?

 

Contrary to popular belief among some younger gentlemen with a predilection for cougar chasing, you don´t have to be rich to be a cougar. Sure, money helps, but only in the sense that it provides sufficient funds for the necessary grooming rituals to take place prior to a night out...namely plenty of eye catching make up, a tight fitting, sexy-as-hell low cut top and the cash to lay out for a taxi home once the cougar´s more than willing ´prey´ has been secured.

 

In fact, being a cougar is mostly about attitude. It´s a liberating title for empowered women to go out and have the time of their lives with guys who have the youthful energy and spirit to keep up.

 

The cougar attitude is about being uncompromisingly honest about what it is you want: whether that´s a one night stand with a cute younger guy or something more long term.
